The Targeted Intraoperative Radiotherapy Skills Labs
The conference will conclude with two dedicated Skills Lab (Breast and Brain IORT) for trainees chaired by breast surgical oncologist, Sheldon Feldman, MD, neurosurgical oncologist, Christopher Cifarelli, MD and medical physicist, Anil Sethi, PhD. The Labs will consist of a lecture series followed by two hours of hands-on training.
Skills Labs Learning objectives are as follows:
- Review technical aspects and radiobiology of conventional radiotherapy and intraoperative radiotherapy
- Review patient selection criteria for intraoperative radiotherapy
- Discuss integration of intraoperative radiotherapy with oncoplastic surgery (for breast Skills Lab)
- Participate in a hand-on lab to simulate wound preparation and intraoperative radiotherapy administration
Residents/Fellows will then participate in two hours of hands on training. Several leading technology companies will display their latest state-of-the-art technologies in a simulated Operating Room where participants will receive didactic and hands-on use of these breast and brain surgical devices.
All Fellows and Senior Residents are invited to participate. Trainees who are interested should complete the authorization form and application. Travel, including economy airfare, parking, and taxi, will be reimbursed (up to $500 total) within 60 days following participation in the program, two nights accommodations at the participating hotel rate, and meeting registration expenses for 48 fellows and residents on a first come, first serve basis.
